OUR STORY

Founded in 1966, Heaney & Mill Studios was the industry leader in both personal & commercial photography in Leeds right up until Ken & Wendy Heaney's retirement.

 

Still owned by the family and operating on the same site at 50 Otley Road in Headingley, it reopened as a proudly independent restaurant and cocktail bar in 2017.Our team works with trusted local suppliers to use only the finest quality, fresh ingredients throughout all our menus.

 

In 2021 we expanded into 52 & 54 Otley Road, doubling our capacity before we set about renovating our upstairs space. Our new dining space, The Sitting Rooms allows us space to offer some new additions such as special menus & private hire.

Ken Heaney

19th March 1935 - 10th February 2026

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the Founder of Heaney & Mill photographic studio Ken Heaney who died 10th February 2026, aged 90 years .. a month short of his 91st.

 

Ken, much loved by his family and the community of Leeds, established his celebrated wedding and portrait studio Heaney & Mill at these premises in 1966 - a double celebration and golden time for Leeds and the England football team that year.

 

The celebration never ceased as Ken loved coming to the restaurant, which is a great lasting legacy and tribute to him and the name that endures as our restaurant today, with Ken's celebrity photographic portrait work on the walls here where the studio statted 60 years ago. We continue to celebrate with fine food and wine and many happy memories. To Ken!
